It is a proud day for the faculty and staff of Watson B. Duncan Middle School. There is nothing that brings a smile to the face of an educator more than seeing their students shine. That is exactly what happened when eight Pre-Academy of Finance students took the opportunity to apply to the Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!), a program sponsored by the North Palm Beach County Chamber of Commerce. YEA! is a groundbreaking yearlong program that literally transforms local middle and high school students into real entrepreneurial success stories through a projects-based approach. By learning about the exciting possibilities associated with entrepreneurship and actually launching a real small business, young people from diverse communities all across the country will be empowered to take charge of their futures in a bold, new way.

YEA! participants will engage in 30 weeks of college course work, be mentored by successful entrepreneurs, and create a business plan for a real business. The program culminates with students presenting their proposal to a panel of Angel Investors looking for the best business to utilize their investment. Eight ambitious students from the Pre-Academy of Finance applied and interviewed for a seat in the YEA! program. To the excitement of the interviewer, Academy teachers, and Duncan administrators, all 8 students were accepted into the program (seven of whom accepted a seat in the program). Over the next 8 months, Adam Brower, Abdullah Ali, Natalee Castillo, Morgan DiCocco, Ryan Holzhausen, Robert Calvert, and Natalie Schlueter will be immersed in the world of entrepreneurship and business.

“Most excitingly, each student will leave the YEA! program with their own operational business and a whole new understanding of how the business world works,” said Kate Wynn with Watson B. Duncan Middle School. “Congratulations to the Pre-Academy of Finance’s YEA! participants.”
